I'm trying to make a couple of modifications to the pascal.sdf file, but when I try to save, it keeps telling me the file is in use.

Maybe I'm missing something - is there a way to edit the settings internally (like add keywords, etc)? If so, I can't seem to find it.

Thanks!

Hi Orionizer,

Thank you for your your query

It's strange because the syntax definition should not be in use by Twistpad.

How did you open the SDF file?
The best way is via File -> Syntax -> Edit.

Saving the definition file should not raise the error of being in use.

Can you try just open the SDF file, without any other document open? Let me know.

No sorry, only by direct editing the SDF definition files

Yes, I tried closing the app, starting a new session and opening the .SDF file by using the File|Open.

I will try the File|Syntax|Edit (I was looking in Tools, etc.) Will let you know!

Ok, I don't see an Edit option under File|Syntax. I've uploaded a screenshot so you can see what I see.

I tried to copy the link, but missed the last few characters, so I assumed [/img], but apparently, this wasn't all that was needed. Hopefully you can view the screenshot, but if not, let me know and I will upload as a new filename.

Ok, I found it after a bit more trial and error.

I got the same error message as shown in the attached screenshot.

Hi,

It's ok, I can see the images

Need a little more information:

a) Have you used the portable creator to install Twistpad?

b) Where are you saving the SDF File? Can you open it again, and do "copy file path" and paste here?

Click the syntax menu item:

then edit:

Thanks

This is a full install. When using the syntax edit method above, I get the error message and then it asks for a new filename. Here is the path:

C:\ProgramData\Carthago\Twistpad\Syntax

This is on Win7x64, if that makes any difference. Also, I am an admin account on this PC.

Also should state I tried the same on my home PC last night and had the same issue.

That PC is Win8x64 and admin account as well.

Hi,

indeed it's strange, you should have full access to
"C:\ProgramData\Carthago\Twistpad\Syntax"

Can you open the above folder and try to create a dummy folder to see if you have permissions?

Thanks,

Hi,

Sorry about this, I cannot make this happen on several computers nor in any virtual machine.

I would suggest the following:

a) Try to edit a sdf file from notepad and see if you are able to save it. Try with and without Twistpad loaded (I've noticed in your screenshot that the dfm.sdf file has been edited recently)

b) Since you are a registered user, try making a portable version installing Twistpad under C:\Twistpad, you should be able to edit the SDF Files.

Let me know,

Also it seems that the image upload does not support file names with spaces, I will fix this

Thanks,

Ok, are you ready for crazy? I wasn't able to do it with Notepad, either. But I got a different message this time...

Access Denied!

So I decided to check the folder itself and the file itself for properties. Guess what? Full control was DISABLED on my user, but not on the Administrator group...

I find it strange it did the same thing on my home machine as well...

Oh well, I added full control to the file and it works great now!

Hopefully, if you run into this in the future with someone, this will help them out!

Glad it is solved.

Hope you can continue to enjoy Twistpad, let me know of any issues or questions you may have

PS: I've updated the images you posted without spaces

Thanks!

Any idea why this happened? I just used the latest TwistPad registered download to install on both machines...

Also, thanks for the quick responses and a great and quick editor! :)
