Thank you for MemInfo. I'm using MemInfo in combination with AR Soft Ramdisk. I have 512MB of RAM, of which 128MB is a ramdisk. I have MemInfo set to report memory left, and I have seen it get as low as 23MB, at which time I back off on the number of programs I'm using.

The ramdisk I use for the WinXP system page file. I notice that Firefox loads pages faster** (the ones stored in the cache). Using about:config (type this in browser address field), I turn off the browser.cache.disk and only use the browser.cache.memory

**The problem is, I cannot discard that it might just be my imagination, since I don't have cold hard numbers.

ps. Is there a way to have MemInfo create a memory usage log file?

Regarding the log Mem. Usage, I think it would be a great asset for Meminfo, but what would you have in mind exactly? (as in what information would you like to see there)

I have to admit that I don't know that much about virtual memory management and the page file in Windows XP. The best information I have found is here: http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm , and I consider this to be a bit vague for my purposes.

Without using the ramdisk, I find that WinXP will NOT use all the available memory before starting to use the page file, according to MemInfo and also according to SysInternals Process Explorer. For example, I may have around 200MB of free memory in RAM, while the page file usage will be at around 150+MB. I cannot think of a logical explanation for this.

So, from my limited knowledge, I would ask for page file usage statistics and concurrent RAM usage statistics, so I can get some hard data on several systems, then, publish the results for all to see in the newsgroups. It will also be helpful in determining how much RAM my computer support clients need.

Regarding your issue with the Ramdisk, I personally never used, so I don't have experience with this, however, MemInfo just displays the information from Windows Itself thus i can't really help there.

Have you tried to contact the guys at AR Soft regarding this?

My post on 7 Jun 2006 13:14:57, has nothing to do with AR Soft Ramdisk. AR Soft Ramdisk works fine. The problem is with Windows XP memory management. The problem is with Microsoft, and Microsoft has no interest in fixing the issue. They probably engineered the issue for the purpose of "planned obsolescence".

What I've noticed with MemInfo, is that it still says the page file size is 250+MB in use. Is this an error with MemInfo?

MemInfo uses internal Windows functions to display memory information, so your remark about the Windows XP memory management should apply here.
