Twistpad support on 95/98/Me dropped

Posted: 2006-11-22 12:18

We're sorry to announce that support for the 9x kernel has been dropped.

The new Unicode architecture for Twistpad makes difficult to support this old versions (since it uses the built in features of the NT Platform regarding Unicode), and sincerely I don't know if anyone who is interested in programs like Twistpad would still be using the 9x platform, I did not want to drop the support, but the changes are significant and I prefer Twistpad to be optimized to work in 2000/XP/Vista, than compromise performance and developing time to make it legacy compatible.

Still pending is testing on the NT 4.0 to see if everything goes OK.

News on the next version of Twistpad

Posted: 2006-11-20 02:09

The new version of Twistpad is currently in the works.

The new major feature/fix is the necessity for Twistpad to work in a user mode other than a machine administrator.
Windows Vista is much more demanding regarding this, so for compatibility this as been implemented.

Basically all file data Twistpad needs to handle has moved to (user)/application Data and All Users/Application Data from the program files folder. This means existing users will require to migrate the settings to this new location (the installer has been updated to reflect this, however custom syntax's, templates, macros and snippets will have to be manually moved (support for this is available through the usual contact channels;))

the new file structure will be the following:

All Users/application Data/Carthago/Twistpad :
Dictionaries, Plugins, Snippets, Syntax and Templates have all moved here, this will be shared by any user using the computer.

(Current User)/application Data/Carthago/Twistpad :
Macros, Recover will reside here, and will be per user.
Also supported is the ability to have Templates and snippets that belong solely to a user, so when listing either templates or snippets, both folders from all users and current user are considered.

This is working in Windows 2000 and XP, hopefully will work in Vista, but testing is pending

For legacy the OS's , 95, 98 and NT testing is also pending, since they work with other folders for users, but I hope continue give support to this Os's (even if Microsoft won't...)

Too much spam lately

Is it me or spam is increasing?

Due to persistent forum spammers, the way of registering a new user in the forums has changed, and the password will now automatically be e-mailed.

I'm sorry for this, but I hope this will prevent spammers from automatically registering in the forum and post their stuff.
